plantations with tree gardens in the Nilgiris, it is the favourite weekend
getaway. Situated about 19 kms from South Ooty, with pleasant weather
all round the year, it was first discovered by the Britishers.

The tourist spots of Coonoor
are
Pomological Station: A fruit garden and a research centre which
commands 3 gardens
where Plums, Peaches, Apples, Lemons, Pomegranates
and Apricots are grown for research purpose. These fruit gardens are maintained by the Horticultural Department.
The other 2 are located at Kallar and Burliar regions.
Law Falls: Named after its
founder colonel Law is Located at a distance of Just 7 Kms from Coonoor on the downward side of
Coonoor-Mettupalayam Road. It is a
beautiful picnic spot, at a height of 180 feet, a nature lover’s paradise
Lamb's Rock: It is 8 Kms from Coonoor on the way to Dolphin's Nose. Situated in
the heart of the jungle where you will get to see the Coimbatore plains and a
popular destination of the tourists.
Lady Caninng's Seat: Just 9 Kms from Coonoor, It features a small house which guards a magnificent
view of the tea plantations and the plains.
Dolphin's
Nose: It is an Enormous rock formation, which looks like a Dolphins Nose, which
has a ravine either side, in one you can see the Catherine Falls, or the other
is a meeting point of the Coonoor and the kothagiri stream.
The Droog: It is a picnic spot which was once used as an outpost by The Ruler
of Mysore Tippu Sultan, now has become a picnic/tourist. It is situated about
15 Kms from Coonoor and stands 6000 feet high, is a Trekkers paradise.
Masinagudi :Situated at a distance of 18 kms from Coonoor is a the scenic beauty which can be termed a mini tourist camp, with lots to see like Bird Watching, Elephant Camp, and the wild safari trip on Elephant, the twin wildlife safaris of bandipur and mudumalai are also a great attraction.
How to Reach Coonoor
Coonoor can be reached by Air, Rail and Road.
Coimbatore which is 100 km away is the nearest airbase, which is well connected
by air to Kozhikode, Bangalore, Mumbai and Chennai. Even Indian Airlines operates
regular flights from Delhi, Kochi to Coimbatore.The Nearest railway station is Mettupalayam (46 kms). And the Major
junction is Coimbatore which is well connected with all major cities.
There is a regular bus service operating from Cochin,
Bangalore, Calicut, Mysore, Tanjavur, Kanyakumari, Tirupati and Cochin. Buses also
run regular services to places like Kotagiri, Doddabeta and Mudhumalai Wildlife
